The HolzBauForschungsZentrum is part of the HTWK Leipzig and is located in the "InnovationsPark Bautechnik Leipzig/Sachsen" in the Engelsdorf district. The interdisciplinary research group FLEX uses the hall for numerous research projects in the overlapping area of digitally based planning and numerically controlled prefabrication. FLEX is an interdisciplinary research group of around 20 people active in the field of applied construction research. Since 2014, architects, civil and industrial engineers, wood technicians and computer scientists have been working together to research new solutions at the interface between academic, mostly digitally based planning processes and manually organised execution processes. The aim is to develop system-innovative solutions that respect the processual nature of construction and open up the possibilities of digitally supported prefabrication processes for the necessarily individually defined construction process. Research focuses on digitally based design, planning, prefabrication and construction with wood, wood-based materials and natural building materials.
